About Dr. Alsawaf

Dr. Al Sawaf is a board-certified neurologist with advanced fellowship training in epilepsy and clinical neurophysiology. At Intent Medical Group, he provides specialized care for adult patients with seizure disorders, including unclassified and medication-resistant epilepsy. His expertise includes surgical evaluations for intractable epilepsy as well as the management of advanced neuromodulation therapies, including vagal nerve stimulation (VNS), responsive neurostimulation (RNS), and deep brain stimulation (DBS). He also specializes in intraoperative neuromonitoring to protect nerve and muscle function during spinal and brain surgeries. 

Dr. Al Sawaf earned his medical degree from the University of Jordan and completed his neurology residency at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY. He then pursued fellowship training in epilepsy at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN. Prior to joining Intent Medical Group, he served as an Associate Professor of Neurology at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield, IL. 

He is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) in Neurology and Epilepsy, and by the American Board of Clinical Neurophysiology (ABCN) in Advanced Central Clinical Neurophysiology with Added Competency in Epilepsy Monitoring. His research interests include neuromodulation use in epilepsy, status epilepticus, and critical care EEG.
